The importance of having employees who love coming to work

Updated: Feb 13, 2018

Sales jobs are not for everyone. You need to constantly be able to pick yourself up and not take rejection personally. You have to always be willing to learn and adapt. If you don't love being in sales, you most likely never will.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do."
-- Steve Jobs

How do you know if your employees love their job?

There are a few signs to know if your employees love their jobs. They love their co workers, they are productive, show up on time, actively search for the sale and have strong work ethic. They can handle rejection and come up with solutions to improve on their own.

So what do you do if your employee is showing the opposite?

First, you need to find out IF sales is the right job for them. Have they had proper training? If you do not provide them the right tools to be successful, you may be losing a diamond in the rough.

Secondly, everyone has their OWN reason to get out of bed and go to work every day. You need to find their reason. For some it is family, some it is a goal they are working towards (school, house, retirement) and some it is to advance in the company. If you find out what motivates them you can help them achieve those goals and change their perspective.

Lastly, you need to find out if it is because of toxic people in your company making the everyday experience miserable for that employee. Perhaps that employee is the toxic one.

Once you have assessed the situation, you will have a clearer picture of whether or not this is the right place for that employee. A great sales team is not about just having the best people, it's about having the right people. When you have a strong, positive team, they motivate each other and will have success. They will love coming to work, which in turn, creates an energy in your workplace that customers want to be a part of also.

“There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don’t like because you think it will look good on your resume. Isn’t that a little like saving up sex for your old age?”
